Bring your “gently worn” shoes downtown on race day!!!

GreatAmerica Leasing Corporation, Run the Flood organizers, and Nashville-based Soles4Souls Inc., The Shoe Charity have teamed up to collect shoes for the benefit of disaster victims and the impoverished worldwide.  Cedar Rapids and surrounding area residents are invited to recycle their ‘gently worn’ shoes for people in need in the lobby of the GreatAmerica Building downtown Cedar Rapids from June 1^st to June 15^th.  Shoes will also be collected on race day in Greensquare Park before the race starts.  A $1 to $2 donation is also requested to help offset shipping.

RACE DAY PARKING

Street parking is free on Saturdays in downtown Cedar Rapids, however, 3rd Ave SE and 4th Ave SE will be closed for the race, so arrive early if you intend to park in the street. There is a parking garage located on 5th Ave SE. 5th Ave SE is a one way toward the east (away from the river). The entrance and exit for this garage is on 5th Ave SE so this will remain open the entire day.

OVERALL GUIDELINES & SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Both the 2.5 and 7 mile run/walk will be City Council approved routes. This is approved as a fundraiser event on city streets and sidewalks, starting at 9AM until 12:00 (noon). However, since traffic will not shut down along routes at all times, participants must be aware of other pedestrians, cyclists, and traffic along the route, following all traffic rules to ensure participant safety. Also, please note that there are homes along the route. Some have been rebuilt, some are in the process, and some still need attention. Regardless, please be respectful of all property at all times. In the event that a home is in the process of being rebuilt, please use caution when running or walking around debris.
