2nd Annual Run the Flood
Saturday, June 12, 2010, 9AM
7 Mile Map & Details
COURSE UPDATED ON MAY 20, 2010
Description
The 7 Mile Course is an opportunity for participants to see how far-reaching the flood of 2008 was. The route closely follows the perimeter of flooding in the greater downtown area. Participants will start downtown, move to the Time-Check area, to the Mother Mosque, Taylor Elementary School, Czech Village, Oakhill Jackson Neighborhood, and Mercy Medical Center before returning to the finish line. Trees along the route will be marked with how high the water reached. It is important to remember that altough it has been over one year since the flood, there is a lot of work to be done. This route will showcase both the progress and the work that remains.
Walking or Running
Participants can choose to walk or run the 7 miles. The route will remain open until 12:00 (noon).
Timing
The 7 mile route is chip-timed. There will be a clock at the finish line where participants can see their score when he/she crosses the finish line. Race results will also be posted immediately in Green Square Park, and then on the website as well.
In order for the chip to work successfully, the chip must be placed on the shoe of the participants. At the start and finish line, make sure to ste on the pad in order to activate your start time and to end your finish.
If you fail to return the chip at the end of the race, there will be a $75 lost chip-fee.
Rules of the Road
1) This route has dozens of volunteer cross guards along the route to help facilitate participant safety.
2) There will be several intersections that are closed by police officers and/or private security.
3) There will be a lead police car and a tail car following the participants.
Note: Once the crowd thins out, it is recommended to be on the sidewalk whenever possible. Please listen to the volunteer cross guards about when it is necessary to be on the sidewalk.
Awards
There are no awards or prizes for top finishers.
Water Stations
There will be 5 water stations along the 7 mile course. Please help thank our water station sponsors!
